Online Store : Getting Serious In This Business

Getting Serious

Getting Serious

We already talk on starting an online store before. Now it is the time for us to be more specific on how we start this business more seriously. Not saying about how an online store engine technically built from. However, rather we’ll talk on how do we start an online store business in management and marketing perspectives.

Starting an online store means that we sell something to the customers that comes to our site, and persuades them to buy anything we provide on our store. By understanding those purposes, we are now getting three points that really build an effective online store: goods, customer, and persuasion. Those three things are the real matters on the marketing domain generally.

Goods

A store is called a store if there is something offered in exchange of the money that the customers given for. This not always means physically, we can sell a service and stay saying that the place is a store, even there may be many objections on that.

Knowledge Base and Passionate

Choosing goods that we’ll offer to our customers is not a really easy thing. Before we select a group of items to be sold, it’s better if we already have knowledge – or even better: passion – about the product. This will really help when our customer need to know something beyond that product specification. For example, when we sell a basket ball and the customer is wanted to know who design the ball. They’ll believe you more when you’re able to tell the product history instead of only write the specifications.

Delivery

In an easy way, this is about how the product or service is getting in the customer’s home. If it is a physical product then we are talking about the product shipping payments and delivery time. If it is a digital product then how the customer able to download the item fast and securely. If it is a service, when the customer gets the service and how we serve them. Specifying these in our store is not an easy thing. However, the customer will always ask them, so our readiness will be an additional point for our customer’s trust.

Inventory

We need to keep our physical product in a safe place needed for the things. Our digital items need to be placed on some place reachable yet secure on the internet. However, that’s not the only thing we talk when it’s come to inventory. We also need to display them, so our customers know that they buy the right item with the right specifications. At this point, our website design is handling this, so select a design that give the right information to the customer. Put our best items on top of the page so visitors will see them first. Keep the focus of our visitors on what we really offer.

Test the Water

If we are new on the business or the item that we offer is new to our store, then selling in small scale is a good thing to do. We need to be really careful on what are our customer really need, and what are attractive to them. Know who are your targets, how is their satisfaction, how much are they willing to pay. Offering coupons and discount will always help you testing your new product effects to the customers.

Customers

Building a good online store doesn’t bring people to our site. High visitor alone doesn’t mean that your store is selling. Customers are hard to get, and only hard work will bring them back to our site. Customers are our kings – and queens.

Target

Never think to build a store that will fill everyone’s needs. Start with a focused target so you’ll know what you’ll sell, how’s your website design, how to talk to them when offer your products, and more important is how to satisfy your customer. Selling a ball to a model is definitely not a right thing to do.

Promotion

Good targeting is needed. However, all of this will not be working without promotions. Putting an ad on Google Adsense is the fastest way, but not the only things left to do in promotion. There are so many ways to bring customers to our site. Promotion target is also important. We need to fish only the right fish to our pond. This way our visitors are mostly our latent customers.

Tracking

Analyze where our customer comes from, which page they visit more, where they’re going from our site. Google Analytics is not just about statistics, it’s also defined our customers. Tracking is needed in better knowing on our customer’s behavior. This way we know what are they really interest, who is our truly targets, and even where we need to put our promotions more.

Persuasion

Great visitors are good, but will mean nothing when they are buying nothing from our store.

Sells the right products

Know what are your visitors needs. Always test your customers with new things that might fit for them. Keep your online store focus on selling things that fit with your customer interests.

Attract your customer

Good product display will make more selling. Design your online store in the way where your customer will always see what are your store highlights. Fill them with the right information. Attracting your customer is working out when your website design is on target.

Discount

The ultimate persuasion ever born in the sales history: Discount. A small cut in price will always bring more sales. So keep giving discounts on highlighted products on your store. Always ask your product distributors for this promotion. Never let the store with no discounts around, or not highlighted discounts. Bring visitors to your website by discounts.

Now we are serious businessmen with a list of serious things to do. Good luck!
